The Phoenician Incoming

As most of you have probably seen by now, Fulgrim is the next character from the Horus Heresy series to be released by Forge World.

He follows on from Angron, Primarch of the World Eaters, in the Primarchs to be released from the series and is one of the two Primarchs I have been waiting for.

With the beginnings of my Emperor's Children/Slaanesh army well under way now, the Phonenician will be a great addition to the look of the army, even if I can't use him that much. Really looking forward to getting hold of the model and giving it a good deal of attention! For more pictures follow this link.

Unboxing Random Supplies from Ebay

I found a big lot on Ebay the other day. It was listed as various bits of Chaos Space Marines but was largely unspecific and the pictures weren't 100% clear on what was in there.

So, what is any one with an addiction to the little plastic models going to do? Ignore it? Let it pass by and go to some other unwitting fool? Or do you bid away merrily until you win your prize? You all know the answer already. The attraction to the unknown was too great. I dived in and damned the consequences to the back of my mind.

So, with the aim of justifying this splurge, this post will aim to do just that (I hope) and hopefully, if my wife asks, I can just point her to this post and show her how in spending money I have saved me some money.

The top half of the box contained a decent haul of plastic treasure, more so than I had hoped for. Included in this is the main body of a Defiler/SOul Grinder, a huge bag of Chaos bits (including Daemon Prince bits, bodies, legs and arms of Chaos Space Marines, banners, Possessed bits, generally all sorts of bits), a full 10 men Chaos Space Marine Squad, 4 Possessed Marines, 2 Genestealers, 1 Assault Marine with jet pack and an Ork of some description.

Not a bad haul so far. The Possessed will join my other 5 mutated ones and the squad will be just a plain marked squad.

The Assault Marine has made me consider adding some Sky Claws to my Wolves, but that will have to wait a while.

And then we have the body of the Defiler/Soul Grinder. The rest of the bits for the Defiler were in the rest of the box, so it would be possible to go that route. Except that I already have a Defiler and don't want another one.

So that got me thinking what could I make? I could buy the Soul Grinder bits and make that, but I'm not convinced about that. So I took a look through my own Chaos bits bag and struck on an idea - a Maulerfiend! Have you ever seen a 'fiend made from a Defiler base? Me neither, so that means it must be attempted. It will either be great or fail miserably. In my mind it is definitely the former.

So, the rest of the box contained these sprues with enough on there to create another 9 Chaos Marines. Here I will invest a little in converting the bodies to Thousand Sons. I have a force staff in the bits bag I got in this lot, so just need to make the rest look sorcery and I am away with them. Always nice to have some AP3 bolter shells firing around the table top.

I will also be putting together some Slaanesh bikers (T5, I5 high speed freaks) with a couple of boxes of the new Chaos bike squads that GW brought a couple of weekends ago.

And finally, the one bit of the box I don't think I will need and will be looking to sell on - Chaos Vehicle Accessories sprues. 4 of them. I only have one Land Raider and 1 Rhino so I can't see a use for these. They are all intact so should hopefully find their way to a useful home sooner or later.

So, all in all, not a bad haul. As a quick calculation. based on what GW would sell this as for new we get -

Maulerfiend - £40
5 Possessed Marines - £20.50
20 Chaos Space Marines - £46.00
4 Chaos Vehicle Accessories Sprues - £36.00
Total - £142.50

And hopefully I should get something back if I manage to sell off the accessories sprue. In conclusion, Ebay can be incredible for bargains sometimes. It will also keep me busy fixing up my Emperor's Children/Thousand Sons for the next few weeks. Thanks for reading!

2 Years Old.

Just a quick post today to mark the second anniversary of the beginning of Travelling the Immaterium. It is amazing how time flies when you are having fun!

A lot has changed both in the 40k world and in my real life. I am looking to get some more gaming-based posts up, especially as I will soon be getting some good experience with not just Chaos Space Marines and Daemons, but also Tau and Eldar. All these new codices and so far, so good. They all seem relatively balanced and, more importantly, are being pretty fun to play with and against.

But what of the future of the Immaterium? I am very hopeful of carrying on for a while yet, showing everyone who reads the blog each model I get painted as it is completed. As I have said above, I would love to start writing some posts based around the gaming side of things.

I also still have the Tyranid Lictor prize from the competition I ran a few months back. Apparently I can't even give him away. He is free to a home that wants him, so please speak up if you fancy it.

To finish this off then, I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who has read the blog over the last couple of years and I hope you come back to the blog again in the future!

A New Year, A New Hope.

Wow, we are now in 2013. How did we get here? 2012 seems like much of a blur now and boy, was it a biggun as well.

I have seen a lot of comments and other blog posts about how the 40k universe has evolved over the last year so I am not going to touch too much on that, other than to say the transition to 6th Edition has been very smooth and very enjoyable, and that the Chaos Space Marine Codex is, in my opinion, a very well balanced book that offers so much I am still trying to figure it all out.

From a personal perspective I was pleased with being able to keep up with the painting of my models, all of which can be found here. Normally I will give up the brush for a few months each year, but keeping the progress going on four different armies seems to have stopped any sort of boredom creeping in. Coupled with this was also my little excursions into painting Astorath the Grim and the Chaplain-Interrogator Seraphicus, both of whom I am very pleased with.

I am also happy seeing this blog grow and grow each month and I am really looking forward to seeing if I can get it to expand any further through this year, so a big thank you to all of you who have spared this blog some time over the year, it is very much appreciated!

On the gaming front I want to get more and more games in and one day this year, I swear to the gods, I will get a Logan-wing army to work and not have all my terminators fall to the stiff breeze that blows through the 40k universe.

From a hobby perspective I am going to aim to follow Tim for WarLlama40k and have my main target for the year as being - paint more than I buy! I have pretty much all the models I want, for the moment, in all my armies so there is really no excuse now for not putting paint on as much as possible. Of course, all models I do finish will be put up on here for everyone to see and for me to keep track of my own progress.

So, two simple resolutions for me - Paint more models than I buy and carry on gaming. What could be simpler hey? We'll have to see how it all goes.

I am also looking forward this year to putting something in the UK Golden Demon. I know its still 9 months away, but I love planning every little detail of anything well in advance and will be starting to look into this in greater detail in the coming months. If anyone has any hints, tips or encouragement they can throw at me (literally if needs be) then please do, I'd be very grateful!

Also coming up on the blog I have been thinking over a couple of ideas for regular articles that should be kicking off this month and I should be starting off a large campaign with a friend in the next month or so, which I am hoping will be as epic as the Space Wolves v Eldar campaign we had last year.

If you have read all that, well done. Thanks for reading and hope you keep coming back through 2013!

Dark Vengeance - The Slow Mans Unboxing

Dark Vengeance has been out, what, three weeks or so now? And only now am I getting round to looking through it and reporting on what I have found? Yes I believe is the answer to both those questions. And yes, I do work that slowly at times.

So, onto the box set itself. I won't run through the individual components of the box as these can be found in a million places across the internet. What I will say is that the contents of the box is, in my opinion, absolutely phenomenal.

The detail on all the models, from the Renegade Militia through to the Hellbrute, the bog-standard Tactical Marines to the Limited Edition Interrogator-Chaplain is top notch. I haven't started painting any of them, but I am very much looking forward to it!

The value for money the box represents is breathtaking - buying the models separately would cost in excess of the £64, nevermind including the mini rulebook, Dark Vengeance missions, quick start rule sheets and the templates, dice and rulers also included. Hats off to Games Workshop on this one, a quality set at a bargainous price.

It has, however, given me one headache on which I cannot work out what to do. This problem is the Dark Angels Interrogator-Chaplain Seraphicus. I am not and will probably never collect Dark Angels. I have no need for another Chaplain type fella within the ranks of my Space Wolves. I want to sell off all the non-Chaos stuff from the DV box set (excluding the mini rulebook, I am keeping that so that I can stop making up the rules as I go along!). But I so very badly want to build and paint Mr Seraphicus, the model is too nice to let go of without getting to paint it first.

So my plan is to build him, paint him, get photos of him and post them on here, then sell him off to a loving home where he can join his battle brothers in many, many battles in the future.

And now, back to my Grotesques...
